y great-grandfather, Joaquim Cordomí Bernades, the first chocolatier of our family was born in 1870 in Dòrria (Girona). He moved to Barcelona with his family and started to work in "Can Borni" where he was thought this trade by great chocolate master. At the age of sixteen, he bought his first "metate" and a stone rolling pin and visited the homes of those who asked him to make chocolate for them.

hen he was 36, he opened his chocolate factory at 201-203 Salmeron Street (which is currently Gran de Gracia) and he named it "Chocolate a la piedra"· Fourteen years later he died from the flu epidemic of 1920, leaving his son Joaquim Cordomí Vilanova alone at the age of 22.

y grandfather, the second chocolatier in the Cordomí family, had to take charge of the business with his cousins Gabriel and Josep Maria Rius Vilanova. They created the factory name "Chocolates Riucord" joining the two surnames Rius and Cordomí. In 1935 they founded another cocoa factory, which they called "Nederland", on Verdi Street. From that moment on, the Rius family dedicated themselves to the import and elaboration of cocoa and the Cordomí family continued with the chocolate production.

oaquim Cordomí Vilanova (1898-1978) was Known in his neighbourhood as Quimet the chocolatier of Gracia. He used to sell his chocolate in the bakeries and one day he met my grandmother, Carme Guinart Terrasa, in the bakery her parents owned at 65 Alfons XII street. He was Known for both his excellent chocolate and the selection of sugar-free chocolates specially for diabetics. He enclosed picture cards with the chocolate bars and I remember that he did everything very craftily. The entire factory had a pleasant scent of chocolate, which is what made me fall in love with this sweet profession.

is office was in complete order; he always had it very well organized. The antique desk, along with other original tools that were collected over the years, are considered to be "masterpieces", can be found in the main entrance of the workshop.

n 1929, at the age of 31, he got married and had three children: Joaquim, Joan and Carmen. The eldest, Joaquim Cordomí Guinart, my father took up this profession. At 19 years, he was already working at "Bombones Blasi" factory that can be found at 1 Peu de la Creu Street and in 1952 he bought it and united the two companies (chocolates Riucord and Bombones Blasi). In 1954, he got married with my mother, Agustina Font Royo and Joaquim, Albert and I, Xavier Cordomí Font, were born. In this factory, my father and my grandfather produced the best chocolate and truffles, always preserving the quality and the artisan tradition in the elaboration. I have very good memories from that time because it was where I learnt to be a chocolate master myself.

t the age of 65, my father retired and closed the business because he could not carry the weight of such a demanding business. In 1995 with the help of my wife, Montse Pagés, we made the difficult decision of continuing the Cordomí chocolate history. We renovated Blasi's image and recovered the original recipes from raw materials of the best quality.

t the present moment Blasi offers new varieties of chocolates and their original "baptism". The first person who comes into the shop and tastes the newest bonbon, gets to name it and describe it in a special book next to the birth date of it.

ver more than 125 years, four generations of the Cordomí family have struggled to continue this blissful calling. We preserve the original recipes passed on from father to son with great secrecy. My children (Xavier, Sergi and Pau) are part of generation that will have to achieve the future goals to be able to continue the old tradition of chocolate making.

hey will inherit Chocolate Cordomí story, one of the families with the longest chocolate making of our country. The current factory and store is at 26 Alfons XII street in Barcelona.
